Accessibility
Everyone is welcome at our theatreproductions. We do everything we can to make them accessible to as many people as possible. On this page, you can find information about our current accessibility options.
General information
In collaboration with New Pack Inclusion Creators and a growing group of partners, we are working to make our productions accessible to as many people as possible. It’s an exciting and inspiring journey, and one in which we are still learning and developing.
If you have any feedback or suggestions on how we can make our performances even more inclusive, please let us know at producties@schuur.nl.
Accessibility of our studio
Our studio is located in the heart of Haarlem city centre and is wheelchair accessible. European Disability Parking Card (GPK) holders can park free of charge in designated disabled parking spaces, as well as in all paid parking spaces throughout the city.
If you are being dropped off by car and need assistance getting to our studio, we are happy to help. Please email us at producties@schuur.nl a few days before your visit so we can make arrangements.
Always Dutch and English Surtitles
All Toneelschuur Producties performances have both Dutch and English surtitles. You do not need to select a specific performance or request surtitles in advance: surtitles are available at every regular performance.
Where are the surtitles displayed?
The Dutch and English surtitles are displayed separately and are integrated into the set design.
Can I read the surtitles from every seat?
We aim to make the surtitles clearly visible to as many audience members as possible in every venue. As each theatre is different and the surtitles are integrated into the set, visibility may vary depending on where you are seated.
As a general rule, when viewed from the audience:
Dutch → on the right-hand side of the set
English → on the left-hand side of the set
Why do we do this?
We want as many people as possible to be able to follow our performances, whether they are Deaf or hard of hearing, or speak Dutch or English. That is why Dutch and English surtitles are a standard part of our performances and are incorporated into the design from the very beginning.
Wheelchair users
The auditoriums at Schuur, our home base, have designated wheelchair spaces and are accessible by lift. The lift entrance is 90 cm wide and has a maximum capacity of 1,000 kg. An accessible toilet is available on the ground floor. To reserve a wheelchair space, please contact our Audience Services team on +31 (0)23 517 3900. The studio where we rehearse our productions is also wheelchair accessible.
